Loaded slate. That’s the best way to describe the Week 5 matchups. There are some big names going head-to-head and it’s a college football fan’s dream. There are going to be some upsets and some tidal waves to the AP rankings after this weekend of games is completed. There has been a lot of movement already and there have been some Top 25 teams that were thoroughly embarrassed a week ago. Here are our Top 3 2025 College Football Games Week 5.
No. 4 LSU vs No. 13 Ole Miss
The Tigers have had smooth sailing to this point in the season. However, I have doubts about their competition so far. Their two big wins have come against Florida and Clemson who seem to be able to beat no one. Their offense hasn’t impressed me that much. To pay all that money to bring back Garrett Nussmeier, they have not done all that well in the points category. They have failed to score big points outside of last week against Southeastern Louisiana. Ole Miss on the other hand has been racking up points with 30 being their season-low in four games. The Rebels haven’t faced competition like LSU yet, but for the Tigers to have to go into Oxford and win a game is easier said than done. I think their defense slows down Lane Kiffin and his weapons but doesn’t get the job done. Prediction: LSU 24 Ole Miss 28
No. 5 Georgia vs No. 17 Alabama
It’s a matchup that never gets old. The Bulldogs versus the Crimson Tide. There is a lot of history in this storied rivalry between the two biggest football programs in the SEC. Let’s look at how they’ve both fared so far. Georgia has played good football, leaving Knoxville with a win against a talented Tennessee team. Alabama still hasn’t lived down their loss to FSU and no one is going to forget it anytime soon. If there is one way to knock that memory into the cobwebs, it’s to win a game like this and take out a top 5 opponent. Both teams are coming off a bye week. My question becomes whether this Alabama offense can keep up with Georgia and my gut tells me no. Georgia hasn’t skipped a beat with Gunnar Stockton who has the fifth best QBR in the nation. Prediction: Georgia 35 Alabama 24
No. 6 Oregon vs No. 3 Penn State
Okay, enough with all this SEC love. How about a Big Ten matchup that should be entertaining. First and foremost, it’s the Penn State whiteout game. The night white-out game is probably the toughest environment to play in for any college football team. Neither of these teams have impressive wins over decent teams. The Ducks have had a cupcake schedule, and you can’t say much better for Penn State. But I am a fan of the Penn State defense which was great last year and is only getting better and more experienced. To take down Oregon, you must cut them off on offense and that’s going to happen on Saturday with that noise. Prediction: Oregon 21 Penn State 27
