With some major upsets, and the Top 25 dumping some overhyped teams while adding some that we never saw coming, week 2 in the world of college football was all over the place. A lot of Top 25 fan bases had their heartbeats raised with some brutal losses while others were storming the fields. Week 3 has three great Top 25 matchups and some other Top 25 teams taking on unranked opponents who could cause them to stumble (looking at you, Clemson.) Here are our Top 3 College Football Games Week 3.
No. 6 Georgia vs No. 15 Tennessee
This will be the game that attracts the most eyeballs on Saturday. A Top 15 SEC matchup between two teams that can’t stand each other. Tennessee can’t really call this a rivalry right now. They have lost the last eight games against Georgia. All those losses have been by double digits to make things worse. The Georgia run game has been mediocre in my mind so Tennessee will have a chance to dominate the clock. But they still must figure out how to penetrate a Georgia defense that is one of the best in the country. Joey Aguilar has been good to start the season, but this is his real first test. Same goes for Gunnar Stockton who is trying to make Georgia fans forget all about Carson Beck. Vegas has UGA as just a 3.5-point favorite. I think the steak is snapped. Prediction: Georgia 21 Tennessee 24
No. 18 South Florida vs No. 5 Miami
USF went from unranked to 18th in the country after starting their season off with wins over ranked Boise State and Florida. The win on Saturday against the Gators cemented this new era of USF as truly legit in the state of Florida. Their defense was suffocating and completely took DJ Lagway out of the game in the Swamp, which is a difficult thing to do. Nico Gramatica became a star overnight, even if his dad already helped make him one. All that said, Miami has a tough task in a game that won’t be a cakewalk on Saturday. The Canes are 2-0 with wins over Notre Dame and Bethune Cookman. I like the Bulls, I like the two wins that they have, and we have probably doubted them far too much. But I am staying with Canes in a game where USF must handle too much talent. Prediction: USF 20 Miami 30
No. 16 Texas A&M vs No. 8 Notre Dame
The Fighting Irish are the 8th team in the country despite their loss to Miami in Week 1. Notre Dame has played just one game this season, taking off Week 2 which has them well rested as they welcome the Aggies to South Bend. The Aggies have faced UTSA and Utah State to begin the year, two opponents that don’t typically get you ready for Notre Dame. Marcel Reed has looked sharp in both of those games and has already tossed seven touchdown passes and is a threat to use his legs to burn a defense. Given how much time they’ve had to prepare and the home field advantage, I am going with Notre Dame in a tight one. Prediction: Texas A&M 28 Notre Dame 31
