AFC West Offseason Team Needs

The NFL season has ended with the Los Angeles Rams on top of the food chain. It’s now time for executives and front offices to get into the trenches and make their teams better. The offseason is where championships are won and there are plenty of massively talented NFL free agents who can make teams better overnight. In this Tailgater Magazine series, we’ll be breaking down the needs of every team in the league. Let’s take a look at the AFC West team needs.

Denver Broncos

Team Needs: EDGE, CB, TE

The Broncos have already made the biggest move of the offseason, sending a bounty of draft picks and two established players to the Seattle Seahawks for Russell Wilson. The Broncos finally have the franchise QB they’ve been searching for since Peyton Manning rode into the sunset. They’ll need to upgrade at tight end after shipping out Noah Fant, but that shouldn’t be an issue with a deep wide receiver class. Outside of that, seeing if LB Von Miller will leave the Rams and come back to Denver should be the top priority. They have plenty of cap space to make a big move.

Kansas City Chiefs

Team Needs: WR, EDGE, S, LB

There are going to be a lot of important decisions for the Chiefs to make this offseason. The biggest is whether they can retain S Tyrann Mathieu. He is the best player on their defense and their best playmaker on that side of the ball. If he chooses to walk for more money, it will create many issues in their secondary that is far from perfect as is. The second biggest need is to give QB Patrick Mahomes a legitimate second wideout option not named Tyreek Hill. The Chiefs are in the red in cap space but could make a selection late in the first round as this draft class is very deep at the wide receiver position.

Las Vegas Raiders

Team Needs; DL, OL, WR

Derek Carr seems to still be the guy in Vegas and if I were a betting man, I would place a wager on this team going all in for a wide receiver. Now that Henry Ruggs is no longer an option, following his fatal DUI car crash, they need to give Carr a legit deep threat and this wide receiver class is stacked for just that. Or Chicago WR Allen Robinson could be a good option as a free agent signing. Shoring up the defensive line and giving Carr some protection up front is a key as well. They will be in a good spot for a top lineman or receiver when they pick 22nd in the first round.

Los Angeles Chargers

Team Needs: OT, EDGE, CB

The Chargers locked up WR Mike Williams in a massive move this offseason and now they need to focus on protecting QB Justin Herbert and giving their defense a fighting chance. The Chargers hit on a stud lineman in the first-round last year as OT Rashawn Slater made the Pro Bowl in his rookie season.  They could do the same this year with the 17th pick. I just think it will be on the defensive side. University of Georgia DT Jordan Davis is one of the best prospects in this draft and will give them a legit stopper to put on the line next to Joey Bosa. LA has money to spend this offseason and they might be going all-in for a deep playoff run in Herbert’s third year.
