Eight national championships in nine seasons—can you say “powerhouse”? What the Bison have accomplished as a Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) juggernaut is an almost unsustainable level of success that is more than likely unlike anything we’ll ever see again. Until they do it again this season? That is what falls at the feet of new head coach Matt Entz. No pressure, right?
Without question, NDSU is the most successful program in the second-highest college football division, the Bison have won an astounding 16 National Championships—eight as a Division I FCS program and eight as a Division II member.
As for tailgating? They are champions at that as well. Over the years, the Bison’s success has turned Fargo—the state’s largest city, with a population over 122,000—into one giant party each game day in the fall.
New for 2019, NDSU has expanded the reserved tailgating section on the stadium’s west side by an additional 217 spots, and over 100 non-reserved spots have been added north of the new softball stadium.
Bison tailgaters are fiercely loyal to their team but more than happy to welcome visitors from opposing teams. Add in nearly 19,000 fans going nuts inside the stadium, and you got yourself a great day of college football. Now what would you like on your burger?
