2024 NFC East Team Needs

Another NFL season has come and gone and now we are just left to count down the days until training camp starts in July. The Kansas City Chiefs will look to make NFL history next season as they will strive for their third straight Super Bowl championship. Each team will take a long, hard look at their roster over the next few months as they try to improve their standing and land a big-time free agent or strike it rich in the draft. Here are the 2024 NFC East Team Needs. All Cap Space amounts are per Over the Cap as of February 2024.

New York Giants

  • Biggest Needs: WR, G, OT, RB, EDGE
  • Cap Space: $19.4 million

The Giants cannot be happy with how this past year shook out. After signing QB Daniel Jones to a four-year $160 million contract it appeared that he really isn’t going to be the guy.  Then he got hurt and the whole thing really went off the rails. Backup Tommy DeVito won’t compete for the starting job after getting benched himself. Saquon Barkley could be gone in free agency and the Giants have a billion needs on the offensive side of the ball which includes getting a legit number one wide receiver and shoring up the offensive line. They have the sixth pick in this draft, and I expect them to go with a legit tackle.

Washington Commanders

  • Biggest Needs: QB, EDGE, OT, TE
  • Cap Space: $73.6 million

The Commanders are going to look a lot different come Opening Day. They have the most Cap money in the NFL to spend and they have a new ownership group that is eager to get the bad taste of previous owner Dan Snyder out of the mouths of fans. They have the second pick in the draft and all signs point to them drafting a QB. That position is their biggest need, but they also need some pass rushers after trading away Montez Sweat and Chase Young last season. Money will not be an issue, and they have three picks in the top 40 which they will be eager to have on the team.

Philadelphia Eagles

  • Biggest Needs: C, CB, G, WR
  • Cap Space: $20 million

It’s amazing that the Eagles have as much money as they do when you consider all the stars they have on their team.  While they do have a ton of young talent, they are facing the tough reality that a lot of other big contracts like Jason Kelce, Fletcher Cox, and Brandon Graham could be hitting retirement homes this summer. Philly needs a huge upgrade in their secondary which got absolutely torched by Baker Mayfield in the Wild Card game this postseason and they need to address their offensive line holes if Kelce does retire. He will likely give the team enough time for them to make a decision on what they need to do should he retire as expected.

Dallas Cowboys

  • Biggest Needs: OT, LB, CB, RB
  • Cap Space: -$19 million

The Cowboys have a lot of tough decisions to make this offseason with their cap space suffering and a ton of needs as they try yet again to get over the hump and get back to the Super Bowl for the first time since the 1995 season. One of the bigger decisions will be with RB Tony Pollard and whether they bring him back. The Dak Prescott contract is another dilemma that needs to be resolved. Should they extend him, to provide some much-needed salary cap room, or stay in salary cap hell this season to see if he’s really the man for the job. They also have a ton of work with their defense which also needs a new direction with Dan Quinn departing for the Washington Commanders head coaching job. Jerry Jones knows the time is now, I expect a big offseason from this team.
