Business in the classroom is matched by fan enthusiasm on Saturdays at Stanford University. Known for its academic prowess, the university is gaining a reputation for serious football cred. With over 100 years of football and one of the best west coast rivalries (with Cal), Stanford students and alumni put on quite a show for game day visitors.
Festivities begin during the “Walk Down” to the stadium. While some might consider the 20-minute walk a burden, true fans use this time to start hyping the excitement and connecting with other fans enroute.
As you approach the stadium, you first pass through the family tailgate area known for its proud alumni willing to share their ample food and favorite Stanford stories. Next up is the student tailgate area, hallmarked by music and dance parties.
Get to the tailgate area early so you don’t miss the infamous Leland Stanford Junior University Marching Band on their way to the stadium. The band has become known for its hijinks and shenanigans over the years. You never know what, but you can be sure they are planning something outrageous.
Once inside, the student section or the Red Zone is the place to be for game time fun. Be prepared to cheer the Cards and heckle the opponent with all the wit and cleverness of a Stanford student. If you have any energy left, after-parties are available all over campus.
