"Make these the day before the game and reheat them wrapped in foil on the grill when you reach the lot."
1 12-count package slider buns
¾ cup pizza sauce
¼ cup bell pepper, finely chopped
¼ cup mushrooms, diced tiny
1 tablespoon dried minced onion
1 ½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese
¾ cup Parmesan, freshly shredded
½ cup cooked sausage
1 cup pepperonis
1 stick unsalted butter, melted
2 tablespoons Parmesan cheese
¾ teaspoon garlic powder
¼ teaspoon black pepper
½ teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons dried oregano
1 tablespoon Italian flat-leaf parsley, finely chopped for garnishing
Preheat oven to 375°F. Line a 9×13-inch pan with aluminum foil and spray with cooking spray. Lay out the bun bottoms.
In a small bowl, mix half of the sauce with the diced mushrooms, chopped peppers, and dried onion. Evenly spread it onto the bun bottoms in the pan.
Sprinkle half of the mozzarella and Parmesan cheese on the bottom buns.
Top spread evenly with pepperonis and cooked ground sausage, placing about 3 pepperonis per bun. Sprinkle with remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses.
Top with the rest of the sauce and the top portion of the buns.
In a measuring cup, mix the melted butter, garlic powder, parmesan cheese, black pepper, salt, and oregano. Pour evenly over the top of the buns. Cover with foil and allow to sit at room temperature for 10 minutes.
Place in the preheated oven and bake for 15 minutes. Remove the foil from the top of the pan and bake uncovered for an additional 5 minutes. Remove, and top with chopped parsley. Serve hot.
