I couldn’t have drawn up a more exciting opening week if I had tried. Between the opening night games on Thursday and Friday, which both came right down to the end, to the Lions and Rams taking us into overtime on Sunday Night Football, my blood pressure was high as my activity level was low all weekend long. Some rookies impressed, others did nothing and still got wins. We are watching the collapse of a few quarterbacks and the emergence of a star on a team that doesn’t need another one. This should be another exciting week. Here are our Top 3 2024 NFL Games Week 2.
Buffalo Bills vs Miami Dolphins
Who doesn’t love a great division rivalry game in Week 2? We’ve seen some epic matchups between these two teams in recent years and it feels like a shootout is coming given how both offenses fared in the opening week. Buffalo put up 34 points but also allowed 28 against the Cardinals who ran it down their throats and returned a kickoff for a touchdown. Speed kills and
Tyrek Hill is planning to get pulled over for running too fast down the sideline and into the end zone in this game. The Fins were able to keep the Jaguars mostly in check and were bailed out by a fumble at the 1-yard line, but once their offense clicked, it was hard to stop. Miami is dealing with injuries in their backfield which tells me they will be throwing it a lot. Prediction: Bills 28 Dolphins 34
Cincinnati Bengals vs Kansas City Chiefs
Burrow vs Mahomes. Joe Shiesty has a 3-1 record against the current best team in the NFL, but I don’t think he will pick up his fourth win this weekend given the Bengals lackluster performance in Week 1, losing to a Patriots team that the league had basically penciled in to be the worst team. Burrow is still coming back from a wrist injury that ended his season in 2023, and I don’t think that offense can sustain by running the ball against the Chiefs defense and Mahomes and his new arsenal of weapons that includes the blazing Xavier Worthy who scored twice in his NFL debut. I think this one might get ugly for Cincy and put their playoff odds in serious doubt. Prediction: Bengals 17 Chiefs 28
Chicago Bears vs Houston Texans
So…Caleb Williams did absolutely nothing and the Bears still made him the first quarterback since David Carr to win in Week 1 as the first overall pick. Williams threw for a measly 93 yards and rushed for just 15. The Bears did not score an offensive touchdown, but their defense was able to make a mess of Will Levis’ game and steal a win. The Texans have a chance to absolutely shred and embarrass this team during primetime Sunday Night Football and I have no doubt that their offense is going to get after it in a big way. C.J. Stroud looked as calm, cool, and collected in a close win over a divisional rival in Week 1 as a second-year QB can look and his new weapon in Stefon Diggs looks scary for the rest of the league. Houston’s defense is prone to allowing points, so Chicago finds the end zone in this game, but I am backing Houston. Prediction: Bears 20 Texans 34
