Here is a thought for NFL head coaches around the league…INVEST IN A GOOD SPECIAL TEAMS UNIT. Multiple teams were burned by missed field goals, blocked kicks, and returns this past week which resulted in losses. It’s becoming quite the trend for teams in the NFL week after week to lose in odd ways. On top of it all, we ended in a tie because of a PAT attempt for a score and four field goals at the end of the game between the Packers and Cowboys. Here are our Top 3 2025 NFL Games Week 5.
San Francisco 49ers vs Los Angeles Rams
There is always something fun when two divisional rivals come together in primetime. The Rams and Niners will battle it out on Thursday Night Football. The 49ers are coming off a brutal loss at home to the Jacksonville Jaguars because their offense had four turnovers and their special teams were burned throughout, including allowing an 87-yard punt return touchdown. The Rams are coming off a big win over the Colts which came right down to the wire as Matt Stafford played hero on an impressive touchdown to Tutu Atwell. The biggest storyline for this week is the 49ers injuries and the fact that they could be without Brock Purdy who complained about his toe after the game. With him and his wide receivers banged up, it might be too much to overcome on a short week against the Rams. Prediction: 49ers 20 Rams 31
Washington Commanders vs Los Angeles Chargers
I think both the Commanders and Chargers are still picking their jaws up off the floor after losing to the Falcons and Giants, respectively. Let’s start with the Commanders. They allowed their defense to get torched by Bijan Robinson and the other skill players in Atlanta. They were blanked a week earlier by the Panthers but then rebounded in a big way to embarrass Washington. The Chargers were stunned by the Giants. NY opted to start Jaxson Dart as they benched Russell Wilson. I figured in his first NFL start Dart would struggle against the Chargers, who have one of the top defenses in the league. Instead, Dart ran all over them and they limited the Chargers who lost yet another offensive lineman. I think the defenses will rebound on both sides in Week 5, but it should still be a close game. Prediction: Commanders 24 Chargers 27
Kansas City Chiefs vs Jacksonville Jaguars
This is not a game that I thought I was going to call a “top three” matchup a week ago, but oh how much can change in just one week. The Jaguars went into Levi’s Stadium and upset an undefeated 49ers team. They did it by forcing four turnovers and burning the 49ers on special teams. The Jaguars have a whole new look to them with Liam Coen as their head coach. On the other hand, the Chiefs have quickly shut their critics up with two straight wins after their 0-2 start. Patrick Mahomes must have really heard the haters as he put on one of his best offensive performances that we’ve seen out of him in the last few seasons. The Jags defense has looked really sharp over the first few weeks of the season and turnovers are where they thrive. I think that the Chiefs will play a much cleaner game and come out of this with a win. Prediction: Chiefs 25 Jaguars 18
