2025 AFC East Preview

Are you ready for some football? We are going to blink, and the 2025 NFL season will be upon us as training camps for all 32 teams start later this month. There is plenty to dive into this year with quarterbacks switching teams, major coaches making a return, and plenty of teams getting much better, while some probably needed some more help. Here is our 2025 AFC East preview.

Last Year

Shocker, the Buffalo Bills were really good again. And shocker, the Buffalo Bills lost again in the playoffs. And for good measure, here’s a third shocker: they lost to the Chiefs. Bills fans have to be getting tired of turning in great regular seasons just to be taken down by Mahomes and company when it really matters. No one even challenged them in the East. The Dolphins finished second in the division with a record below .500 as Tua Tagovailoa experienced another major blow to the head and the team, as well as Tua personally, must start thinking about his long-term viability in the league.

Behind those two were the New York Jets who were flat and ugly with Aaron Rodgers under center. It was such a bad season that Robert Saleh was canned halfway through, and it led to a divorce with Rodgers in the offseason. And while it’s hard to type these words, the Patriots finished last. They fired their head coach, hired former player Mike Vrabel and should be much improved in 2025 after a big offseason of spending.

Favorite to win in 2025

The Bills will be favorites yet again as Josh Allen looks to finally get over the hump and make a legit run in the postseason. The Bills have underachieved for far too long in the playoffs. Their offseason wasn’t great. They released Von Miller and replaced him with another aging defender in Joey Bosa. They also took a gamble on another former Los Angeles Chargers player by bringing in Joshua Palmer to try and improve their wide receiver room. I think they’ll be worse than they were last year but given the weak division they should still finish at the top.

Offensive Player to Watch: Justin Fields

It’s not the flashiest name but it’s the name that the Jets chose to pay this offseason to replace Aaron Rodgers. Fields was in Pittsburgh for a year but couldn’t seem to shake Russell Wilson for the starting job despite playing well during the time that Wilson was injured to begin the year. Fields will now face scrutiny in New York if he can’t find his footing rather quickly.

Defensive Player to Watch: Minkah Fitzpatrick

The Dolphins made a move that sent Jalen Ramsey and another player to the Steelers and in return they were given back Minkah Fitzpatrick who they traded away years ago. I don’t really get this trade for the Steelers as Fitzpatrick is the better defender and should help the Fins secondary.

Prediction

Because of just how weak this division is, I am going with the Bills to win yet another divisional title, but they won’t match the 13 wins that they had a year ago. Record (11-6)
