We are nearing the midway mark of the Major League Baseball season. That also means all eyes are on award predictions. Aaron Judge and Shohei Ohtani are almost always in the mix, and spoiler…there isn’t much of a change this time around, either. But there are still plenty of players in the mix for hardware, let’s break it down. Here’s our list of the 2025 National League Midseason Awards.
Most Valuable Player
Shohei Ohtani – Dodgers: No big surprise here. Ohtani continues to hit the cover off the ball. Ohtani is already hitting near the top of the league and will be on pace to hit over 50 home runs, and he hasn’t even begun pitching full-time. Once that happens, he will have a tough time losing this award.
Pete Crow-Armstrong – Cubs: Crow-Armstrong has become the best player on the Cubs. He is finally living up to the high-priced prospect tag that has followed him around. Crow-Armstrong is in the top 10 in home runs, top 10 in RBI, and is playing excellent defense for an NL Central contender.
Corbin Carroll – Diamondbacks: The Dbacks are going to have a hard time keeping up in the NL West standings but if they can, it will be because of Carroll. He is hitting for power, stealing bags, and playing a Gold Glove caliber center field.
Cy Young
Paul Skenes – Pirates: He likely would have won the Cy Young last year had he been given a full season during his rookie year. Skenes gets the full season now, and he’s crushing it. First in ERA, second in WHIP. Teams practically throw a parade when they score a run off of Skenes.
Zack Wheeler – Phillies: Zack Wheeler has made it clear he will be retiring at the end of his new contract. That makes no sense because this guy is at the very top of his game. Third in strikeouts and third in WHIP. Considering the Phillies will make a run, he is going to be a name to watch.
Logan Webb – Giants: Webb has been one of the most underrated pitchers in the league for a while now. He was second in NL Cy Young voting a few years back, but never fully gets the credit he deserves. He continues to put out solid start after solid start this season for a surprise Giants team.
Rookie of the Year
Drake Baldwin – Braves: Baldwin is a catcher that is turning a lot of heads with his power. He is hitting at an impressive rate for a guy who spends most of his time behind the plate. He is on pace to hit more than 20 home runs in his rookie year.
Jacob Misiorowski – Brewers: He was throwing a no-hitter in his MLB debut before he hurt his ankle on the mound in a freak accident. Regardless, he has the chance to be the Paul Skenes from a year ago with overpowering stuff. He can easily become the Brewers ace.
Agustin Ramirez – Marlins: Ramirez might get hurt by a lower batting average, but he has a ton of power which goes a long way for any catcher.
