Merry Christmas – Do You Have Faith?
Expert Advice

Hard to believe that another year has come and gone. Well, nearly gone. I love the Christmas/New Year holiday timeframe as it is a time to visit with friends and family, and to reflect and to give thanks for all that we’ve been blessed with in our lives. It’s also a time to rest, recharge, and get ready to do it all over again next year.

Of all the many things that I’m thankful for, one of them is having you, our subscriber, be a part of the greatest tailgating community platform in the world. For that I am truly grateful and want to say a sincere, “thank you”.

Every day, we provide the most unique consumer audience showcase about tailgating & backyard BBQ “homegate parties” available. We feature great food & drink recipes, entertainment ideas, sports stories and cool gear & products to make your next tailgate, or backyard BBQ party for the game, the best ever! It is my hope that you will continue to like what we do.  If not, please let us know.

For those that know me, my wife – who really runs the show here – and I spend most of our disposable income attending sports events and rock concerts.  I am an unabashed Texas Rangers and Dallas Cowboys fan.  Of course, I also love my Texas A&M Aggies football.

Unfortunately, none of those three teams had a good 2024 season.  Fresh off a 2023 World Series Championship, my Rangers slumped to a losing record this year and failed to make the playoffs.

My Texas A&M Aggies, fresh off paying Jimbo Fisher $76 million not to coach them, finished the regular season 8-4.  Despite all the usual pre-season hype they underperformed.  Once again.  I guess I should be used to it by now as they have lost at least four games in 24 of the last 26 seasons. At least the Aggies baseball team made it to the College World Series Championship.  So, I’m thankful for that even though they lost.

As for the Dallas Cowboys, after three straight 12-win seasons, 2024 proved not to be so kind as they failed to make the playoffs this year and will finish with a losing record for the third time in the last 20 years.

Unfortunately, my Cowboys misery extends longer than 20 seasons.  If you had told me right after they defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers in Super Bowl 30, that not only would they not play in another Super Bowl for the next 28 years and counting, but that they wouldn’t even make a single conference championship game appearance in that timeframe, I wouldn’t have believed you.  Yet here we are.  This is despite 13 playoff appearances in the previous 28 years, so it’s not like they haven’t had their chances.

I know that there are plenty of Dallas Cowboys haters out there to which I always ask, “how many Super Bowls has your team won in the last 28 seasons?”.  Because unless you are a fan of the New England Patriots, or Pittsburgh Steelers, you’ve had 28 years to match the Cowboys five championships, and your team has been unable to do so.  So, at least there’s that Cowboys fans.

Maybe the Cowboys will make the Super Bowl next year. Afterall, they played in eight of the first 30 and could have played in 16 of the first 30 had they won each of their conference championship game appearances. So, with next season marking 30 years since their last Super Bowl appearance surely, they can make it back next season.  At least that’s what I keep telling myself year after year. Got to have faith!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all!
