Well….we told you that Georgia and Alabama was going to live up to the billing and boy did it ever. I thought Kalen DeBoer was set to get his first staple win in Tuscaloosa but not even I could have predicted how exciting that game would have turned out. One thing is clear…the dynasty is not dead. It makes upcoming Bama/UGA matchups that much more exciting. There’s only one Top 25 matchup this week, but several other intriguing contests in store. Here’s our top 3 picks for 2024 College Football Week 6.
No. 9 Missouri vs No. 25 Texas A&M
The Tigers have had a few scares already this season, including a nailbiter in their last game against Vanderbilt who they beat by just three points. The Aggies enter this game 4-1 and they’ve had some decent wins, especially against Arkansas. Backup QB Marcel Reed has performed well in starter Conner Weigman’s injury absence leading the Aggies to three consecutive victories. If Weigman is deemed healthy it will be interesting to see if he replaces Reed. Mizzou stacks up better on both sides of the ball, and outside of some early jitters in their first four games, they should handle A&M in this one. Eli Drinkwitz is one of the better young coaches in the nation and I think he will have his guys ready to go at Kyle Field in this game. Prediction: Mizzou 27 Texas A&M 21
No. 12 Ole Miss vs South Carolina
SEC fans are circling this game because with another loss, Ole Miss will virtually eliminate themselves from postseason contention. They had a shocking upset loss at home to Kentucky, a team that South Carolina destroyed. South Carolina has a great freshman QB and a pass rush that causes fits. Jaxon Dart was clearly thrown off his game last week, failing to pass for over 300 yards and the Rebels could do nothing in the run game. This time around, they will run it effectively. The Gamecocks rank 68th with their ground defense and will have trouble slowing them down. Ole Miss is a 9.5-point favorite, but I see a field goal deciding this game. Prediction: Ole Miss 35 South Carolina 32
No. 10 Michigan vs Washington
I love a National Championship rematch, and this is exactly what we are getting. Neither of these teams are constructed as they were last year, nor do they have the same head coaches. Michigan just barely beat USC in a game that could have truly gone either way while Washington is fresh off a loss from Rutgers…yes, Rutgers. Both offenses have been pretty lame, and we aren’t seeing the firepower like we did last year. Jedd Fisch is still trying to figure out success through the air which is an issue with Michigan’s defensive front which won’t allow them to have their way on the ground. It’s a nice thought that the Huskies will get some revenge from January, but it isn’t happening this week. Prediction: Michigan 23 Washington 17
