Power Conference Rankings Week 4

From the 3 That Have Actually Played

Week four of the 2020 season provided another exciting weekend of games. The SEC continues to be the best conference but there was a shake-up in the hierarchy.  Clemson proved without a doubt that they are still at the very top of the ACC class.  As for the Big 12, somebody had to win the Texas-Oklahoma game.  Here’s how we rank the three Power 5 conferences that have actually played a game:

SEC

Arkansas gave Auburn all it could handle for 60 minutes and Missouri upset LSU.  Ole Miss hung with Alabama for over 50 minutes and proved that the ‘bama defense is vulnerable by racking up the most yards for an opponent in Alabama history with 647, while also scoring 48 points.  That’s the most points Alabama has allowed to an unranked opponent in the history of the AP poll.

Georgia toyed with Tennessee for a half before dominating the 2nd half.  Texas A&M & Jimbo Fisher ended a 7-game losing streak against top five opponents as they toppled number four Florida on a last-second field goal.

Big 12

While it certainly lacked the usual hoopla against the backdrop of the Texas State Fair, Oklahoma outlasted Texas at the annual Red River Classic at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas.  It took them four overtime periods to do so though after blowing a 14-point lead in the fourth quarter.

Iowa State, Kansas State and Oklahoma State all remain undefeated in conference play.  However, because of the inferior quality of overall conference play, it will take an undefeated season and conference championship victory from one of those three teams for any team from this conference to be considered for the College Football Playoffs. They are just that bad.

So much for the Clemson-Miami showdown as Miami was never competitive in the game. Clemson continues to be the clear, undisputed leader of this conference.  It looks like Notre Dame is the only team left that might challenge the Tigers until the College Football Playoffs.

Although, North Carolina staved off Virginia Tech and could provide a competitive game against Clemson.  Here’s how the ACC shapes up.
